A Big Hat

I've been meaning to say something for a while, but I can't get over how much he looks like you, Jax. It's so obvious that he's your child. Maybe it's that I don't know Lloyd's face very well, but when I look at Matt, I can only see you.

I found a photo of me in the move, taken when I was a year or so older than Janel. If I hadn't know it was me, I would have mistaken it for her. Even G said he couldn't believe how identical we looked.

While I realise that sharing genes means we will share features, I'm still amazed that God lets our kids look like us. There's something very special about that identifying characteristic, or feature, or mannerism, which gives rise to that sense of belonging.

While at times, I hate the fact that I'm turning into my mother, at other times, it feels so good. It's so good to know that something of her carries on in me. It's so good to know that we will always be connected. It's so good to know that even now, I still belong to her.

And that's what I think I see in Matt. I see some of your facial features, yes. I also see your spirit shining through in him - something of your joy in life, something of your natural curiosity, something of your gentleness. Matt is definitely your child, and that's a really good thing.

Yep, that's a big hat. With a big boy living a big life inside of it.

Natalie also finds hats irresistible. Matt is quite the fashion expert!

He looks so tall! Very cute in a hat. Does he wear one when you want him to? Kelly F
